Isn’t this all subjective?
If we put legal, financial, and religious reasons to get married aside, it’s romantic. It’s about committing yourself romantically and sexually to one person (ideally forever). In that case, “titles” like “wife” and “husband” are just what we use to indicate that we are romantically committed.
I’m getting married this year, and when I say the words “my husband,” I won’t mean “my breadwinner,” or any other stereotypes. Instead, I’ll mean “my life partner.”
It’s not that I can’t do this life thing by myself — it’s that I choose to do it with him by my side.
